Radiolase Surgery for Stubborn Corn and Verucca Removal

Radiolase surgery is widely used in Podiatry for the painless surgical removal of skin conditions such as corns and verruca. Radiolase surgery uses very high frequency radio waves transmitted between a small electrode and a plastic coated antenna plate. This induces heat within the cells in contact with the electrode. Moisture within the cells vaporises causing cell destruction and tissue division. A small probe is held against the corn or verruca. The energy from the radiowaves causes evaporation of the cell contents, which then form a hard plaque and is removed with a scalpel.

Radiolase is a completely painless procedure; to ensure this an injection of local anaesthetic is given before the treatment begins.

Local anaesthetic

There are two types of Local Anaesthetic available:

  1. Those local to the lesion, lasts a few hours, and is suitable for isolated lesions
  2. Nerve block at the ankle: this will give full pain relief for at least 8 hours
